Harold van Es
Senior Advisor
Harold van Es is a Professor in the Section of Soil and Crop Sciences at Cornell University and served as its department Chair from 2007 to 2011. He was the 2016 President of the Soil Science Society of America and is a Fellow of this society as well as the American Society of Agronomy. He has authored over 220 papers and has educated thousands of professionals and students on sustainable soil and crop management. He is the lead developer of the Cornell Soil Health Initiative including the Comprehensive Assessment of Soil Health (CASH) framework. He is also the lead inventor of two digital technologies for crop nitrogen management (Adapt-N, licensed to Ever.Ag; and Leaf-N, licensed to RowBot), as well as spatially-balanced designs for field experiment (in GDM’s ARM software). In recent years he studied solar energy technologies and their role in agriculture and community development in developed and developing countries. Over his 40 year career, he conducted projects in the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.
